In this interview, Pr Alexandre Belot from Lyon, France discusses exciting advances in pediatric lupus care. His team combines genetics, biomarkers, and multidisciplinary expertise (nephrology, rheumatology, and dermatology) to better understand and treat young patients. Routine genetic screening now helps identify rare single-gene causes of lupus, allowing for more targeted therapies, while the interferon signature test monitors disease activity and guides treatment. New therapeutic options, such as anifrolumab, JAK inhibitors, and even CAR-T cell therapy, are showing promise, offering hope for more effective and potentially curative treatments for severe pediatric lupus.
This interview is based upon work from COST Action CA21168. COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. Our Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation.
